Live Report: boygenius at The Piece Hall, Halifax

"We're gonna play our entire discography", Phoebe Bridgers announces a few songs into the set, as the light rain continues to shower over a sold-out Yorkshire crowd. It's met with some of the loudest screams of the night, which is a statement given the mass sing-along to 'Emily I'm Sorry' that just occurred, which left the band practically inaudible over the 5,500 voices that knew each and every word, many of whom were in attendance the night before as well.

This is boygenius in their entirety: the full, finished package. Completed by Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, the supergroup brought their world-class live show to a venue that's quickly becoming the most magnificent space in the UK - an unmissable stop for any international touring act. Starting off with an acapella performance of 'With You Without Them' behind the stage - all three members harmonising around the same microphone - the curtain was unveiled and the band raced onto stage, erupting into the riff of '$20'.

Full of energy and laughter, the band's charisma was on unreal form - as is testament to the chemistry between the trio. Constantly cracking jokes over the top of one another, the euphoria and emotion of the set was nicely broken up by their humour, anecdotes and crowd interaction.

Topping and tailing their set with hits, the climax of 'Not Strong Enough' was an apex point of the show, the rain plummeting down momentarily as the electric atmosphere reached another level.

Treated to a solo outing from each of the trio's formidable back catalogue, we're reminded of the sheer stardom and magic that all three have created over the course of their careers. No wonder the results were dreamlike when they ventured towards a joint project, as three best friends. Their debut album 'the record' has propelled them to obscene heights, with a memorable live show that will hold a special place in history.
