Rebecca Black - Let Her Burn

Rebecca Black has just released her debut album titled Let Her Burn. For those not familiar with Black's previous work please can I direct you to YouTube to check out her debut single "Friday".

"Friday" was released in 2011 year when Rebecca was 13 years old. After this we had various incantations and flavours of pop music throughout her teenage years, none of which particularly caught on BUT everything changed in 2021 when the "Friday" remix featuring 3OH!3, Dorian Electra and Big Freedia dropped signifying Rebecca's embracing of hyper pop (whatever that means). This is the Rebecca we know today.

Her debut album "Let Her Burn" is as chaotic as Rebecca's career path thus far. Every single track on here mashes up a fresh assortment of genres and influences from the metal with breakbeats displayed on "Destroy Me" to the SOPHIE-inspired deconstructed electronics at the end of "Crumbs" to the Gesaffelstein-type fluid bass on "misery loves company".

This record is as bombastic as it is fresh and new. After a full listen I'm still no closer to understanding who Rebecca Black is and what her sound is. Banging, diverse production paired with Black's fun, bouncy, no fucks given vibe.

A wild album to start the year with and certainly one of the most fun releases out so far.
