Brick Lane Jazz Festival is shaping up to be phenomenal

One of my favourite festival experiences from 2023 was my very first of the year down at the Truman Brewery in east London for Brick Lane Jazz Festival. A multi-venue, weekend festival featuring some of the best talent on the map at the moment. Obviously it does what it says on the tin with plenty of fantastic jazz but you can also expect hiphop, rnb, funk, soul and many different flavours of world music.

This years lineup has recently been released and its looking like another world class weekend and a must for the calendars of UK festival goers.

Over it's three day run time you can see some of the most exciting music around at the moment with prime bookings Ojerime, Ego Ella May, Oscar Jerome, The Silhouettes Project and Theo Croker.

Of course it wouldn't be a UK festival without some friends of the podcast making an appearance in the forms of David Mrkapor of Blue Lab Beats (who shelled it last year) and Akin Soul alongside the already mentioned Oscar Jerome.

Some other artists on the bill that I can't wait for are Bricknasty, who's 2023 record INA CRUELER had me hooked, Brown Penny, Cassie Kinoshi's new band sure to be amazing, Myele Manzanza, drummer/composer/producer extraordinaire he's been in my regular rotation for a year now and shows no sign of leaving it and finally for those looking for more latin flavoured grooves look no further than COLECTIVA, coming through with some of the most danceable, get the fuck on your feet, grooves that jazz has to offer.

Beyond the festival itself there is also the festivals afterparty at Village Underground on the Saturday night headlined by the legendary Jitwam, sure to bring some groovable magic to his DJ set.

The booking agents at the fest have once again smashed it and I can't wait for April to come around. Closer to the festival I'll make some more recommendations for who you should be checking outon the weekend.
